When looking your best is a task to achieve with perfection, a good to great base is necessary. I was never a fan of foundations because the creamy texture just never suits my skin. Some how, no matter what I did, it will sweat off and make everything look so cakey. I was far from reaching anywhere close to finding my ideal foundations which is when a friend helped me pick the right one. It is very important to know what share you belong and what skin type are you. Foundations are ideally supposed to be used when heading out to a big event or occasions like weddings. I wouldn’t even wear foundations to parties because when you dance, you tend to sweat!
My ideal foundations will suit you too!
I eventually started using blotting papers and primer so the foundation wouldn’t melt so easily. It did work to a great extent. What ideal foundations do is that they even out your skin of any discoloration or spots and develops a good base for you to then highlight and contour. Because I love these highlighting and contouring, I need to use a foundation. Now because my skin is a combination one, sensitive and has a pink undertone, it was challenging to look for my shade initially. Let’s put it this way, all of the products by different brands are ideal foundations that one could use. It’s just that it varies from individual to individual.
I have a serious problem with the brands selling foundations in India. There are women across tones from fairer tones to warmer tones. If you look at some brands you will probably find two to three variants of foundations having only 2-3 shades. Injustice? It sure looks like that to me! My ideal foundations lie mostly in international brands. Why? They understand how people vary in color and there has to be a perfect shade for everyone! In some brands like Hourglass and Anastasia Beverly Hills, they have about 20 shades of foundations. Now how cool is that?
Nonetheless, there are still a few brands that I love using and have definitely made to my ideal foundations list. They are all in varied ranges but fantastic for your skin. I will be listing them out for their skin type, price per piece and coverage.
1. CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup
My absolute favourite in the list of ideal foundations. Not cakey, easy to blend, super hydrating and really light on the face.
Ideal for sensitive skin and especially is you have dry skin. Buy them only from the Chanel stores in India.
Retails between Rs. 2500-3000
2. L’Oreal Paris Infallible 24h Foundation
Available in about 11 shades, works well if you are in a humid city like Mumbai. Good for all skin type and gives maximum coverage.
Retails for Rs. 1325
3. Maybelline New York Fit Me Matte Poreless Foundation
If I am not wrong this foundation was launched early this year and has managed to stick with me since them. Works for all skin type and gives a full coverage. One drawback is its packaging, I would have loved if it had a pump or a dropper.
Retails for Rs. 525 and available in 6 shades.
4. L’Oreal Paris Mat Magique 12H Bright Mat Foundation
A recent purchase in my vanity and I love this foundation. One can use it on an everyday basis too. Not too heavy again and works with medium coverage. It is available in 5 shades.
Retails for Rs. 595
5. NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat Foundation Liquid
One of Nyx’s really good products is its foundations. It gives a matte look and is also a full coverage foundation. Definitely worthy of the 12 ideal foundations you could try.
Retails for Rs. 900
6. The Body Shop Fresh Nude Foundation
This is my third favourite foundation and I will mention my second favourite up ahead. Doesn’t have a strong smell. Gives a light to medium coverage and is semi-matte for 24 h. For me it works about 8-9 hours which is good enough.
Retails for Rs. 1895
7. Chambor Orosa Skin Fusion Foundation
Available in 4 shades, I think you could get a Chambor just for the amazing quality that their product has. Absolutely light weight, easy to use because of the dropper and instantly brightens up your face. I never had to blot my face whenever I used this foundation.
Retails for Rs. 1495
8. Revlon Photo Ready Air Brush Effect Make Up SPF 20
If you are heading out for any kind of photo shoot or a wedding, this is the foundation to be used. As the name says it does give an airbrushed look! Gives medium to full coverage and has SPF 20.
Retails for Rs. 1100
9. Colorbar Full Cover Makeup Stick
This is something that I use pretty much every day or on alternate days when I want light coverage and an easy going casual look. Holds on tight to your skin hides imperfections easily. Of course because it is a cream stick foundation, when blending I use a wet sponge instead of a brush. It gives a much refined look. Good for all skin type and available in three shades.
Retails for Rs. 675
10. NYX High Definition Foundation Liquid
A good foundation again, wouldn’t feel too heavy on your face giving you a flawless finish. It is available in 4 shades.
Retails for Rs. 1900
11. Chambor Enriched Revitalizing Make Up Foundation
Available in three shades, this one by Chambor is a steal. There is 18 SPF, it gives a smooth finish and I think for a combination skin like mine, it fits in just right with my skin.
Retails for Rs. 1295
12. Anastasia Beverly Hills Stick Foundation
Now I can’t quite decide whether I love this or the Chanel foundation more, but because that is liquid, ABH’s stick foundation is my second favourite. Available in a whopping 23 shades I have one for highlighting and one for contouring. I LOVE IT! It is highly pigments and is a buildable foundation that gives you a natural matte finish!
I bought it from the US for about $ 40 which is about Rs. 2800 in India. I am not sure if it is available in India, but the day it is, it’ll take you guys by storm!
I am yet to use Hourglass and CoverFx foundations but I have heard real good things about those too!
