The kinds of makeup that exist
I have been always confused about the kinds of makeup that exist because I didn’t find about it until I was looking for the right makeup artist for my bridal makeup. Even though I chose to go ahead with HD makeup (not that she explained to me how that would be better than the airbrush one), I had still not known the difference till I started doing some research. Possibly, most of you are having basic or regular foundations in your makeup kits. Some of us might also have some expensive ones not knowing whether it has any HD or Airbrush qualities or not.

What is HD and Airbrush makeup?
HD or the High Definition makeup derives this term from the High Definition camera lenses that have the abilities to capture even your smallest of pores. Yeah, reality! And trust me you don’t want that to happen when you see your wedding portraits. Makeup artists began having difficulties covering those little blemishes and flaws on women’s skin as they were showing in the pictures. Thanks to the manufacturers of High Definition foundations as they claim to be HD!
HD in the products means that manufacturers of reputed high-end brands have tried harder with foundations to make them fill in lines on the face, so often they contain enough silicone that is like cement filling cracks on a wall. When you look at your face, it does feel beautiful but too much silicone begins to look slippery rather oily especially in tropical countries like India. This means you got to use the right amount of setting powder to pray there are no flashbacks.
Airbrush makeup, on the other hand, is a technique which is done using an air gun but more or less with the same foundations. Yeah, it’s confusing because the only actual difference is that when the foundation is airbrushed on your face it feels lighter and gives a dewy finish. But, otherwise, it is eventually going to prep you for all those HD lenses for your big day. This is a kind that’s definitely suitable for oily skin types. While HD makeup works for every skin type well.
Looking for some real good foundations? One of these could be your holygrail foundation, all perfect for shoots and long wear purposes.
Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation SPF 15
Bobbi brown’s foundation is a blessing. I have my bottle and using it at least 3 times a week for the last 6 months and it hasn’t dried one bit.
MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Stick Foundation
Fortunately, the MAKE UP FOREVER products are more accessible in India which means you can now buy them online on Nykaa as well as Sephora.
MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Liquid Foundation
Shoot, bridal, basically will glam you up naturally and show like a second skin in pictures.
Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup
Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude Water Fresh Makeup Foundation SPF 30
Estee Lauder happens to be on my top three favourite brands in cosmetics and I have never been disappointed by any of their products. This foundation is medium to high coverage and it feels dewy on the skin. Again, another second skin you could like.
If you’re wondering why I have not included any MAC foundations, well, the sole reason is that I am not so fond of them. Also, I feel it only suits a certain skin type and tends to get real cakey within just a couple hours. MAC foundations are definitely of a great quality, but just haven’t worked for me yet.
Opinion: The better of the ‘kinds of makeup’
Here’s how I feel about the kinds of makeup: It is all about your makeup artist’s skill. The things that need to be achieved for a bridal makeup or for that matter any makeup that involves long day events or shoots are:
- Your little blemishes, acne, pigmentation or any marks or fine lines must be hidden.
- It shouldn’t melt with your tears or from the heat of the lights instantly.
- Your faux lashes shouldn’t be falling just within the first couple hours.
- Shouldn’t feel heavy or cakey.
A good makeup artist who is trained to do their job well will know the right ways to prep your skin, colour correct in the right places, layer all makeup to set for 9-10 hours together without getting cakey or falling apart and should know what will suit you as per your preferences.
If all these things are taken care of then it hardly matters what kinds of makeup you pick. Always get an appointment and understand from your makeup artist beforehand to avoid any last moment surprises as brides.
